Lebenia

This is my first action project for my humanities class called Stories. This unit we focused on creation myths, also known as Etiological myths. The purpose of this project is to create a myth, a world, or a society using what we have learned. I chose to create a planet called Lebenia and told the story through second person so the reader can get a tour of the planet through the perspective of a citizen. I really enjoyed this project because I could put my creativity to use and make a whole new world. I had a little trouble putting all of my ideas into a story format, and in the end there was a lot of things that I had to cut out of the story. I am particularly proud of the artwork I created because I got to visualize the geography and a creature so the reader could actual see what I saw when imagining it.

“Hello, My name is Della Roth and I will be you tour guide as we traverse Lebenia!
MN (2016) Lebenia
Before we begin our tour I would suggest you look up. You may notice the eclipse of our sun Lëzta, and our moon Ardelen. This eclipse probably looks different than you are accustomed to. That is because Lëzta emits blue light, unlike the more common red or yellow.
Lebenia has three continents, each with noticeable differences. To the north you will find continent Norda. The Mainland our ship is currently flying over is known as Reislan. The islands called Sūda that make up the southern continent.

MN (2016) Wyverns

The oceans are brimming with thousands of colorful teams of fish. Aquatic life ranges from schools of translucent fish the size of a fingernail to the sharp toothed whales that are the nearly the size of the largest cities. Wild wyverns, a creature with a dragon’s head and wings, a reptilian body, two legs, roam the skies and barbed tail coated in a deadly poison. These creatures have become more and more scarce since they started to become hunted for their skins for nearly indestructible leather and meat for a rare delicacy that’s only sold in the classiest restaurant.

The purpose of Reislan is not for residence, but for something similar to what used to be referred to as school. Education begins when a child turns 10 years old and is moved to the first stage on Reislan and ends at age 18. During the first ten months of the year are spent learning different skill depending on what year they are in, and in the other 2 months the students are on their own, with only the skills they have learned throughout the year to find their way to the next stage. Students are not permitted to work together nor bring anything with them but the clothes on their back.
The first stage is located in the woods of Rift. This is the only stage that the students are taken to by guides. This year is mainly spent learning about Lebenia, survival skills, and the terrain of Reislan. Wässe Island is the next school, and as almost half of the trek there on water, students must survive without an active supply food and on innovation in building a raft for the crossing. The next year is focused on getting in peak physical condition and continuing the study of survival techniques and the continent. Easily the most treacherous journey, and sometimes is referred to as an icy hell as each students must cross the Pryian mountain range, and get to The Diehaipt Peak. According to statistics only half of every class makes it out of the mountains.
The next stage is locate in Treya, After that comes Frelma then Lussen and Norza. These years are not nearly as importent as the prior ones, they  learn more 'traditional'  skills that were taught so long ago on earth, like maths, languages, and history. The final year is called Ocia, and this stage is crucial in deciding where a student will be sent afterwards. Foreigners call this a barbaric system, but it has worked undeniably well for a very long time and it is a controlled reflection of survival of the fittest nature. Besides, It would be a blasphemous for any citizen to try to run from The Reislan Stages. Our omnipotent leaders who live on Reislan are our benevolent benefactors for challenging and educating every member of society.

We are now approaching the northern islands, named Norda. These lands are the home for the upper class. Here you will find the smartest, bravest, and the richest on the planet. The Nerdan’s an ostentation lifestyle is only granted if someone has either have been among the top 50 after the Reislan stages or has inherited land from family that previously lived there. The people here indulge in rare fruits from Reislan and deep-sea fish that the Sūdan people go to extreme lengths to hunt down for their superiors.

Fast approaching is from the left side of our ship is the southern continent. Sūda is home to the middle and lower class. The Sūdan’s are stuck in their subordinate positions with no chance to advance.  For the middle and lower classes meals consist of almost entirely of the common fish found near the shores of whatever island they reside on. Though it may seem that this would be a horrible lifestyle, the people here are actually quite happy with their simple and small towns, as the people have known no different.
